As we begin the new year, we’re seeking a more intimate relationship with Jesus, devoting our attention to Him, and relying on His strength in all things.

The victory begins in the spiritual.

  • What is fasting?

Fasting is the act of abstaining from food for a period of time to draw nearer to God. It’s an intentional practice that helps believers focus on Him and deepen their relationship with Him.

Through fasting, we humble ourselves before God–subduing the physical appetite to make room for spiritual growth. It’s a way to express repentance, demonstrate trust and obedience, and grow in our appreciation for spiritual life over physical comfort.

  • Practical ways to fast.

    If you’re healthy and able:

Abstain from 1–3 meals a day and drink only water during that time

If you have health concerns or are pregnant:

Try a partial fast (abstain from certain foods), OR

Try a non-food fast (limit things like TV or social media)

  • How to fast.

Prepare your heart. Begin in prayer, inviting the Holy Spirit to lead and strengthen you.

During the 21 days (January 5 - 26): Use the time you’d normally spend eating to pray, read Scripture, and focus on God’s presence
